Ex-British champion Shane McPhilbin scores winning return in Nottingham

Old rival – and occasional drinking partner – Jody Meikle talked a good fight ahead of the clash at the Motorpoint Arena.

But for most of the four rounder, McPhilbin kept him on the back foot.

McPhilbin, out of the ring since losing to Paul Butlin for the vacant Midlands Area heavyweight title in May, 2014, fought like he wanted to KO the iron-chinned Meikle.

The 32 year old boxed aggressively behind a double jab and throughout the fight, he detonated several right-hand bombs on Meikle’s chin.

Meikle’s chin – one of the best in the business – didn’t let him down and McPhilbin had to settle for a points win over four rounds.

Ahead of the fight, McPhilbin said he is targeting a return to the pros.

But following his wide points win, he said he’s undecided about what’s next.
