Josh Taylor v Viktor Postol – Results from The SSE Hydro, Glasgow

Josh Taylor retained the WBC Silver super-lightweight title with a hard-fought victory over former world champion Viktor Postol.

Beginning brightly, Taylor then lost some control of the contest in the mid-rounds before rallying to drop the Ukrainian in the tenth with a world-class shot.

The knockdown was telling and swung the tide of the bout in completely in Taylor’s favor as the Glasgow crowd got behind their man in the final three minutes.

Both boxers gave their all right until the final bell in what was a great scrap for the duration of the SSE Hydro encounter.

Taylor’s strong finish was enough to see him over the line, although the judges’ scores seemed much wider at 118-110, 117-110, 119-108 than reflected in the fight.

Chantelle Cameron kicked off the show with a sixth round stoppage of Natalia Aguirre. Cameron, holder of the IBO lightweight title, can now boast at 7-0 C.V as she pushes for further honors.

Heavyweight Martin Bakole, recently enjoying some Twitter beef with Joe Joyce, took just over one minute to dispatch of DL Jones. The Billy Nelson-trained puncher dropped Jones twice in the opening 60 seconds and has now rattled off eleven straight victories in the top division ranks.

Tommy Philbin wasted no time taking out Dominik Landgraf as the light-heavyweight made it a perfect eleven victories. Only 119 seconds had elapsed when Philbin was awarded the stoppage.

Claiming the IBF Youth title, Lee McGregor had too much in his locker for Goodluck Mrema, taking out the experienced Tanzanian in the fourth. McGregor is now 4-0.

Completing the card, Gary Rae beat Johnson Tellez via a six-round points win, whilst Eftychia Kathopouli overcame Domenika Novotna on points over four times two minute rounds.
