EXCLUSIVE: ‘I’m hearing it’s Joshua v Wilder in October’ – says Dereck Chisora

Contracts are currently in the reviewing and signing stage as Joshua and Wilder look to face each other next.

Speaking to WBN this week, British contender Derek Chisora gave his personal view on the fight.

“If you’re a boxing fan and you love boxing that much you wouldn’t put money on that fight,” Chisora exclusively told World Boxing News speaking at the launch of the William Hill Arms Pub.

“It’s a fight that’s got two athletes, two hungry fighters. One who got knocked down, had to get back up on his feet, take one or two rounds to come back with the power punching and knocking the other opponent out.”

Anthony Joshua was down heavily when he fought Wladimir Klitschko but showed great heart to get back up and win the fight. Chisora states Wilder has had his problems as well.

“We’ve seen that with Wilder as well where he gets hit so hard that he didn’t know where he was for the first couple of rounds and then obviously comes back with so much power.”

“This fight is not about who can box who, it’s about who hits who first.

“These guys are venomous punchers when they hit you, so when you get hit by these guys if you get up – you’re good. What happens when you get up? My money is on who hits who first basically.

“That is it, whoever gets hit first loses the fight. I mean its true – if AJ hits Wilder first with a serious right hand or a serious uppercut he’s gone. If Deontay swings and hits AJ the fight is done.”

The Povetkin mandatory situation for Joshua is looming over the Wilder fight. If the deal for the Wilder fight is not done quickly, Joshua will have no choice but to defend his unified titles against WBA mandatory Alexander Povetkin.

Chisora gives Povetkin little chance against Joshua in the early rounds.

“AJ will beat Povetkin in the first three rounds if he decides to fight him. If he lets Povetkin warm up and gain the rounds it’s a long night for him.

“Povetkin is very slow in his first three rounds but after that what happens – he’s very good.”

When asked for what fight he thinks will happen next, Chisora concluded by saying:

“I’d put my money on he’s fighting Deontay. He’s fighting him next in October, that’s what I’m hearing.”

Dereck Chisora was speaking at the William Hill Arms, the pub which will offer fans the ultimate England watching experience including expert analysis, plus free food and drink.
