Luke Caci looks forward to July 13 return in Stoke

Caci will be looking to make it six of the best and record a half dozen of pro wins without reply at Kings Hall on Friday, 13th July.

He features as part of BCB Promotions’ ‘Stokin The Fire’ show.

The chiseled 28-year-old light heavyweight, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, returns to the venue when he won his first paid belt, the eight-round British Challenge crown, in March.

The Orme Boxing Club graduate, who is still led by his old amateur coach Steve Woodvine, survived a late gut check to roll over Chris Dutton on points.

It was a comfortable win, in the end, with referee Shaun Messer having him well ahead by four rounds, in a 78-74 decision.

Caci made it five over-the-distance wins from five outings with the scalps of Dutton, Curtis Gargano, Daniel Borisov, Mitch Mitchell and Andy Neylon all on his ledger.

He was then due to box on the undercard of Hughie Fury’s British heavyweight title win over Sam Sexton in May, but had to withdraw because of a hand injury,

A new fight date and top class sparring has whipped him back into shape, with Caci sharing the training ring with some quality opposition.

British title challenger Ricky Summers – the next opponent for the much-vaunted Joshua Buatsi – and the highly-rated Zach Parker have more than put him through his paces.

Caci wants to show further improvements when he steps through the ropes again and has vowed to never rest on his laurels.

“I’ve been back in the gym for four weeks now and the sparring is always intense,” Caci told bcb-promotions.com. “These lads are contenders in and around my division, so I’m more than well-matched.

“I’ve done alright in most of the sessions, but I always go away with something to work on for next time. It’s all a learning curve for me.

“Winning the title at Kings Hall was my best and worst night, all rolled into one. I got caught in the last round when I didn’t need to.

“It wasn’t even a good shot, but my legs went stiff and I started to do a funny little dance! I got through it, but I was frustrated with myself.

“I didn’t really know whether I’d won or lost, because the crowd kept him shouting at me to ‘go forward.’ They were probably telling me that I could have got him out of there.

“Watching the fight back, I think I won six out of the eight rounds, so I have to be happy with that but being silly towards the end cast a shadow over the win, a little bit.

“I’m an endurance fighter, I have my best success when I box and feel my way into fights. I don’t concern myself with stoppages, I just want to win.”

His bout supports the main event at the Kings Hall, which will see Ryan ‘Stewart’ Davies and Rob Hunt collide for the British Challenge welterweight title.

Caci’s stable-mate Nathan Heaney, who is Stoke born and bred, also features in the middleweight division as part of the supporting cast.

Derbyshire duo Ross Hollis and Connor Parker make the trip to complete the line-up for the home corner.

Tickets, priced at £35 standard and £60 VIP ringside, are on sale now and can be purchased by calling Caci on 07413 240 666. Alternatively, contact any of the boxers on Facebook.
