Good news for Manny Pacquiao as Bob Arum says Vasyl Lomachenko will peak at 140 pounds in future

In a previous exclusive interview with WBN, eight-weight legend Pacquiao, currently campaigning at welterweight, speculated he could possibly boil down to 135 pounds for Lomachenko – albeit at a push.

“Yes, of course, we are interested in that fight,” Pacquiao exclusively told World Boxing News on May 14 on the back of Lomachenko beating Jorge Linares for the lightweight world title.

“Vasyl Lomachenko just beat Jorge Linares and he has the lightweight belt now (which means we can fight for a title).

“Why not fight again in America? I have always been a fighter. If a good fight can be made anywhere, we will be there to accept this fight.

On the weight stipulation, he added: “I could take a fight with Lomachenko at 135, but that would be pushing me to my limits.”

Speaking to the BoxNation podcast, Arum confirmed he believes Lomachenko will max out his weight rise the super-lightweight limit.

“I think that, as far as Lomachenko, the best we can hope for is maybe 140 pounds, Junior-Welterweight (now changed to super-Lightweight). He’s way too small for Welterweight.

“Frank Warren’s been calling me, he says that Flanagan is going to win that fight (v Maurice Hooker on June 9) and he thinks that Lomachenko fighting across the pond sometime soon would do massive business,” he added.

Asked about another of his fighting tearing through the divisions, Terence Crawford, Arum says the latest move by the former undisputed 140 pound king would be his last.

“Terence, I think probably this is the highest he’s going to be. He was the Lightweight Champion, the Junior-Welterweight Champion, now he’s going for the Welterweight Championship. I don’t see him going further than that,” stated Arum.

Crawford challenges Jeff Horn for the WBO 147 pound title on the same night as Flanagan v Hooker.

For now, Lomachenko has a long recovery after undergoing surgery for a shoulder injury this week.

The Ukrainian pound for pound king hopes to be back in action by the end of the year.
