The Golden Boy promoter offered to make Joshua and US rival Deontay Wilder, whom he used to have in his stable before Al Haymon began his own company, superstars in the United States ahead of a what could be the most lucrative undisputed top division battle of all time.

Joshua’s handler Eddie Hearn has reached out to Wilder’s team in order to get the fight made in 2018, although De La Hoya believes he needs to be involved in order to make both fighters a stack of cash for the contest.

De La Hoya even went as far as stating Joshua was not well known Stateside despite selling out stadiums in the UK and being broadcast on top US network Showtime.

“If Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder want to become household names in the US of A and stop doing mediocre raiding (ratings) on Showtime, call me and I’ll make you superstars in the beautiful USA. #GoldenBoyPromotions,” posted De La Hoya before instantly being sent a ton of messages from ‘AJ’ supporters in Great Britain and beyond.

The point being made by the ten-time world title holding legend was that Joshua is making 15 million pounds when selling out 80,000 stadiums in the UK, when he could be headlining at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and making upwards of 50 million dollars plus by raising his profile across the Atlantic.

In regards to Wilder, De La Hoya believes the WBC champion has gone backwards since leaving Golden Boy to join Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions despite reaching 40-0 with a recent win over Luis Ortiz.

An undisputed clash between Joshua and Wilder is still being touted to take place in Las Vegas, with a rematch at a UK stadium to follow – or vice versa.
