Exclusive: Rising star Jack Catterall runs the rule over the newly refreshed 140lbs division

Terry Flanagan was due to fight Maurice Hooker for the vacant WBO world title on April 14 until the double-header show with Billy Joe Saunders vs. Martin Murray as the main event was postponed.

As new dates are being looked at for Flanagan vs. Hooker, Jack Catterall gave his insight to WBN on the fight:

“Yeah for me, its an evenly matched fight, they’ve both got good attributes and from my point of view, I hope Terry wins it,” Catterall exclusively told World Boxing News.

“Just for the simple fact that we’re under the same promotional banner and the fight will then be a lot easier to make.

“I’ll be going down to watch the fight and supporting Terry (when the new date is announced) and hoping he can bring that title back.

“I’m not saying we’re gonna get the fight straight away but I know and I believe in my ability that if I can defend the WBO Inter-Continental, one way or another I’ll be in a position where he can’t avoid fighting me for it.”

Regis Prograis has increased his profile massively with his latest knockout victory of Julius Indongo, some have called him the new star of the super lightweight division.

Asked about Prograis, Catterall replied: “I’ve heard his name mentioned before but I’ve not actually seen him. For me, I’ve said it in the past that it’s about focusing on yourself, that’s most important – perfecting my craft.”

Prograis has a lot of hype currently and is already shooting for the newly crowned WBC champ Jose Carlos Ramirez. When asked what he thought of Prograis being labelled the new star, Catterall replied:

“I don’t give too much thought to it, don’t get carried away with putting people on pedestals and expecting too much. I know me, I work hard and I’m dedicated and ultimately that fight gets made in the future then I look forward to it.”

Besides Prograis, there are many names in 140lbs that make it an exciting division.

“I think its good, the 140lbs is not only doing domestically but worldwide, there’s a lot of good fighters so I’m happy to be amongst that weight division and look forward to testing myself against other great fighters, over here and around the world and see where I end up,” he added.
