Forbes Money List: Canelo remains top with Joshua poised, Wilder jumps as Pacquiao clings on

As Wilder gathers pace, former great Manny Pacquiao is on the verge of dropping off the list after struggling to land a top fight in recent months.

Due to his earning potential in the UK, Anthony Joshua is poised to take the top spot from the sport’s biggest earner Canelo Alvarez.

Here’s the current earnings list as it stands (previous ranking):

1. Canelo Alvarez (1): Set to earn another massive cheque on May 5th in a rematch with Gennady Golovkin as the new PPV powerhouse following the retirement of Floyd Mayweather.

2. Anthony Joshua (2): Purse of reportedly £18 million for Joseph Parker, £15 million for Wladimir Klitschko and £10 million for Carlos Takam, Anthony Joshua is on the verge of taking over the top spot should he remain undefeated on March 31.

3. Gennady Golovkin (3): Back-to-back clashes with Canelo have made sure there’s no change in the Kazakh’s ranking.

4. Vasyl Lomachenko (4): Fighting consistently in world title fights keeps ‘Hi-Tech’ steady in the top five.

5. Errol Spence (6): Victory over Kell Brook catapulted Spence into the big leagues where his purse rose again for a defense against Lamont Peterson.

6. Terence Crawford (5): Crawford drops simply due to those around him earning more, although a move to welterweight should mean more money.

7. Deontay Wilder (8): Wilder’s win over Luis Ortiz brought superb ratings on Showtime and it just seems a matter of time before ‘The Bronze Bomber’ becomes a PPV attraction.

8. Sergey Kovalev (9): A bit of a slump after missing out on a third fight with Andre Ward, although Kovalev continues to draw steady paychecks.

9. Daniel Jacobs (7): Signing with Matchroom recently, Jacobs needs big names to get back to his career-high payday against Gennady Golovkin last year.

10. Mikey Garcia (11): Moving up all the time, Garcia’s reputation could soon see him hitting the top five as one of the best fighters on the planet.

11. Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (11): Defeating Roman Gonzalez twice helped raised the super-flyweight’s stock considerably and he’s now a regular feature on HBO.

12. Keith Thurman (10): A lack of activity through injury saw Thurman drop.

13. Jermell Charlo (13): Competing in a stacked division at 154 pounds means plenty of opportunities to rake in dollars.

14. Jermall Charlo (14): Like his brother, is waiting for a defining fight to come around.

15. Manny Pacquaio (12): Clinging on to the final place of the Top 15, Pacquiao badly needs a fight but earns nowhere near what he used to. Gone are the days of eight-figure purses like that opposite Floyd Mayweather.
