Gennady Golovkin to finish 2017 as Pound for Pound #1 despite Vasyl Lomachenko win

Lomachenko’s victory over Guillermo Rigondeaux, taking into account the weight difference, wasn’t enough to push the Ukrainian from his previous position of third place.

Following a stellar year of three stoppage wins though, Lomachenko does end 2017 in second place and is a certainty to feature on the twelve-man shortlist for WBN Fighter of the Year next week.

‘Hi-Tech’ or ‘Nomaschenko’ as he’s now being called, is the current holder of the only annual WBN award voted solely by the fans and will be aiming to make it two in a row when the poll finishes in mid-January.

Only Golovkin himself has claimed the trophy on more than one occasion after winning the vote in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Here’s the P4P Top 15 as it stands with just a few more events left this year.
