The Ukrainian amateur legend saw off the challenge of Jason Sosa in nine rounds at the MGM National Harbour at Oxon Hill, Maryland on Saturday night to make it eight wins against one loss as a professional.
Displaying dazzling skills and a confidence beyond his nine bouts without the vest, Lomachenko once again proved his credentials in what was already the 29 year-old’s eighth world title fight.
Retiring Sosa in nine rounds, Lomachenko then turned his attention on any of the other divisional title holders, or failing that, ‘High Tec’ will look to move up and face Mikey Garcia or Terence Crawford at 135 or 140.
In the co-feature, yet another awesome amateur from the Ukrainian production line., Alexandr Usyk retained his WBO cruiserweight title for the second time.
Usyk, 30, had way too much in his locker for Michael Hunter and took a 117-110 victory with all three of the ringside judges.
The talented southpaw seems to be on his way to at least unifying at the 200 pound limit before moving up to heavyweight when things will really get interesting.
In the third bout of the evening featuring a Ukrainian, 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Oleksandr Gvozdyk halted Yuniesky Gonzalez in three rounds to push to 13-0.
Gvozdyk, 29, has hardly lost a round since turning pro in 2014 and looks destined for a world title shot in the light-heavyweight division in the not-to-distant future.
