Canelo bang on weight target, refuses to play ball with Mayweather

The 23 year-old, attempting to hit the mark for the first time since 2011, scaled without incident in Las Vegas to seemingly make a mockery of Mayweather’s pre-fight weight negotiations and looked ready for war with the American.

Current two-weight world title holder Mayweather came in at a predictable 150 and one half pounds for his latest big pay-day and as usual wanted to engage in some mind games with his opponent in front of a mammoth crowd. ‘Money’ squared up to ‘Canelo’ for what seemed an eternity at the head-to-head as all around watched on in anticipation of a possible ruckus – although Alvarez remained cool and collected as Mayweather reeled off some trash talk.

Mayweather then wanted Alvarez to hold the WBC’s newly-made solid gold title belt for the gathering of photographers at front row, but was left hanging when the 42-0-1 fighter refused to answer his request. The antics of Alvarez looked to have some affect on the usually unflappable Mayweather, who then gave an edgy interview with Showtime’s Steve Farhood and was visibly taken aback when thanking the fans for their attendance.

All in all, the eagerly-anticipated contest has more pull than ever on the back of the weigh-in and promises to be a spectacle well worth the entrance fee or pay-per-view cost to all that wish to witness history in the making.

The co-feature weigh-in between two-belt champion Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse went off with a slight hitch as the WBC and WBA title holder was forced to rescale at 140.5lbs, until both were finally declared to have hit the 140 limit.
