Eubank Jr. moves closer to facing Saunders v Ryder winner

The 23 year-old from Hove, who is unbeaten in ten contests, returns to the ring on Saturday night at the Magna Centre in Rotherham and according to the BBBC, could then face former two-time Lonsdale Belt challenger Nick Blackwell.

Blackwell, 22, lost out to Billy Joe Saunders and Martin Murray in previous challengeis and is currently slated to face Max Bursak for the European title on September 21 in Ukraine. A victory for the Trowbridge man would almost certainly rule him lout of a drop back to domestic level though and a replacement would probably then have to be named.

The Board have stipulated a date of October 9 for purse bids for the clash, with the victor then becoming the mandatory challenger to the winner of current champion Saunders’ bout with John Ryder on Saturday week.

There has been some considerable animosity between Eubank and Saunders in the past, with fight fans now in a position for the fight to become a reality if both come through their September encounters unscathed and the Blackwell eliminator comes off.

Eubank’s opponent for this weekend’s fight is yet to be named.

“NICK BLACKWELL v CHRIS EUBANK JNR.

The Stewards decided to put out the above final eliminator contest for purse bids to be submitted in accordance with the Terms and Conditions attached to the Board’s Head Office by 12.00noon on Wednesday, 9th October 2013, the contest to take place by the end of December 2013.” – British Boxing Board of Control.
