De La Hoya predicts Floyd v Canelo rematch clause will be exercised

The former multi-weight world champion, who retired having lost to Mayweather and arch-rival Manny Pacquiao, is certain that Alvarez, 23, has all the attributes to pull off a shock victory at the weekend and sees a second fight on the horizon for the two world title holders.

“I mean (Canelo winning, possibly be knockout) that’s my personal position, my personal feeling. That’s how I feel that the fight will pan out. You know in boxing anything can happen,” said De La Hoya.

“In boxing any punch can land and knock you out so my feeling is that a fighter like Canelo Alvarez has what it takes to land that perfect punch.

“Canelo winning (the fight means) there is a rematch unless Floyd retires, but that’s not likely to happen.

“I believe both guys are competitors, both guys want to be against the best, and Canelo winning-for sure we know we will see a great fight-I strongly feel that both guys will want to fight again.”

Mexican superstar ‘Canelo’ goes into this weekend’s massive clash as the underdog, although is representative of the toughest test Mayweather has faced, probably since De La Hoya himself in 2007.

A win for the ginger-haired puncher would make headlines around the world, and with many predicting a classice encounter, all in the sport would certainly welcome a return if the fight lives up to all expectations.
