Rendall Munroe explains bantamweight decision

The 31 year-old had a contest against world title challenger Nehomar Cermeno in the pipeline but opted to move down to bantamweight and is now eyeing a shot at British and Commonwealth champion Jamie McDonnell.

“I am looking to make my bantamweight debut in early February,” Munroe told World Boxing News.

“I have been made no promises about a fight with McDonnell but I was struggling to get a fight at 122lbs.

“I can make 118lbs without a problem so my team thought – why not do it and look for some big fights at bantamweight?”

The Leicester man would have no problems hitting the four-pound lower mark as he regularly came in under the super-bantamweight limit – including against Toshiaki Nishioka in his only world title bid last year.
