Former world champ Danny Green recovering from emergency surgery

According to the 37 year-old world-ranked contender, he had himself checked out at Busselton Hospital in Western Australia on Wednesday after complaining of an acute stomach pain, only to be turned away by a staff member who told him everything was fine.

Green then returned to his family, who were taking a holiday break with him only to be rushed back to another hospital the same day, where he was thoroughly tested and found to be in a serious condition after his appendix burst and the abscess was discovered.

The abscess has been reported to have been the size of a cricket ball and was removed after a lengthy surgery, which has left the strapping six-footer wheelchair-bound. Doctors told the IBO champion, that any blow to the stomach around the growth could have been fatal.

It is thought that the “Green Machine” will make a full recovery, but it is still unclear whether the light-heavyweight, who is unbeaten since 2006 and stopped the great Roy Jones Jr in one round in 2009, will get the green light to box again in the near future.
